Heritage

Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School has a long and proud heritage.

It began as St. James, the first Catholic school in Brooklyn.

Since 1851, it has been run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers who brought to it the rich heritage of a Lasallian education going back to the work of St. John Baptist de La Salle.

The St. James band played at the funeral of President Abraham Lincoln.

Loughlin's graduates have proudly followed the motto: Enter to learn, leave to serve.

On the following pages you can learn more about this great heritage.
